The Blackpool
Tower
is
not only a great local landmark in its own right but also home
to several great attractions, the most well known of which is
probably the Blackpool Tower Ballroom. The ballroom is one of
the finest in the country and still hosts regular dances in
the true old fashioned way. For the younger members of the
family there are a host of children’s entertainment in the
form of the likes of Under Sea World and Jungle Jim’s
playground.
For a
choice of thrilling white knuckle rides you need to get down
to the
Blackpool Pleasure Beach, a vast funfair with plenty
to do. Despite new rides it’s the classic roller-coasters
that
Blackpool
is best known for, including the ultimate
challenge if you dare, the Pepsi Max Big One,
Europe
’s tallest and fastest roller coaster, so
definitely not for the faint hearted.
Along
the Golden Mile in
New Bonny Street
you’ll find the Sea
Life Centre,
a modern aquarium designed to interest and intrigue entire
families from young to old alike. There’s a diverse
collection of colourful marine life to behold including
sharks. They also hold feeding demonstrations that are well
worth timing your visit around.
For
water based fun take a trip to the Sandcastle
where you’ll find Waterworld, a huge leisure pool with
impressive water chute rides, a wave machine and a balmy
tropical temperature for those who just want to chill out
poolside. There are also quieter attractions such as the
Sleepy Lagoon and a children’s entertainer most days.
For a
day out with a difference try the
Model
Village
on
East Park Drive
. Here you’ll find an entire village
constructed on a miniature scale where even the little ones
can peer over the rooftops, making for some great photo
opportunities. It’s also the wonderful attention to detail
that really makes this a particularly charming place.
